HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth freshman Ailish Forfar capped a stellar opening to the new year by being named the Hogan Hockey/ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Month.
The East Gwillinbury, Ontario, native tallied four goals and added an assist in January, while leading the Big Green to a 5-3-1 record.
Of her four markers, two came on the power play and two were game winners. Forfar's game-winners came in back-to-back games on Jan. 9 and 11, against Vermont and Quinnipiac. The first-year forward also had two multi-point games during the first month of 2013.
To date, Forfar leads all freshmen with three game-winning goals. After a slow start, she has settled into the offensive system netting five goals with one helper through the first 18 games of her career.
Along with Forfar, Cornell junior forward Brianne Jenner was tabbed Player of the Month, while teammate and classmate Lauren Slebodnick earned Goaltender of the Month honors for January as chosen by the League's coaches.
The Green and White have won every game this season in which Forfar has scored a goal. Forfar also becomes the first freshman in program to history to earn the monthly accolade from the conference.
The Big Green return to the ice on Feb. 1, when they host ECAC Hockey and Ivy League rival Harvard. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and the game will air nationally on Fox College Sports.
