Big Green Tidbits
Championship Week –
This weekend is the start of postseason racing for the Big Green crew teams. All three squads will be racing in their respective league championships. This weekend’s racing goes a long way to securing postseason bids. The men’s heavyweight team looks to make its 15th straight IRA Championship appearance with a good showing over the weekend while the lightweight team will be looking to reach nationals for the eighth consecutive season. The women will look to head back to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2010.

Saving The Best For Last – The Big Green heavyweight crew team closed out the regular season in style by reclaiming the Packard Cup in its annual race with Syracuse. Dartmouth last won the Cup in 2010. This was the first Cup victory for the heavyweight crew this season. The race, annually one of the best, didn’t disappoint as the Dartmouth crew crossed the finish line less than a second ahead of the Syracuse crew.

Heavyweight Recap of 2012 Sprints – Dartmouth placed three boats in the petite final at the 2012 Eastern Sprints. The Big Green’s freshman eight recorded the highest finish on the day, with a third-place showing. The team as a whole, earned eight points in the Rowe Cup standings and the first varsity eight was sixth in a very close petite final.

Heavyweights Looking to Reclaim the 2010 Sprints Magic – The 2010 Eastern Sprints were certainly a memorable one for the Dartmouth heavyweights. The first varsity eight blew away the field in their heat, posting the fastest time of all the heats, and reached the grand finals while the second varsity eight was third in the petite finals.

Lightweight Recap of 2012 Sprints – The Dartmouth lightweight team and the varsity eight is looking to improve on its second-place finish at Eastern Sprints last season. The Big Green’s top boat fell to Harvard in a tight race in which the Crimson crossed the line just 2.18 seconds ahead of Dartmouth. The second varsity eight and freshman eight also raced in the grand finals.

Women Look to Make Splash at Second Ivy League Championship – The Big Green women will see if they can improve on their sixth place showing at last year’s inaugural Ivy League Championship. The Big Green’s top two boats raced in the grand finals with the second varsity eight earning a fifth-place finish.

Winner of Ivy League Championship Earns NCAA Championship Berth – With the automatic qualifier for women’s crew this season, the winner of  the first varsity eight race at this weekend’s championship will earn the Ivy League’s automatic bid and will also earn berths  for their second varsity eight and varsity four.

Dartmouth Women Receiving Votes in CRCA Poll – The Big Green women’s squad is receiving votes in this week’s edition of the CRCA/USARowing Coaches Poll. The Big Green have five votes in the weekly poll. The Ivy League is well represented as Princeton has a No. 5 ranking this week to lead the Ancient Eight schools. Harvard (8), Yale (9), Brown (12), Columbia (15) and Cornell (16) are also ranked.

Big Green Men Getting Votes Too! – The men’s heavyweight first varsity eight is ranked No. 15 this week, moving up a spot from last week after winning the Packard Cup. Harvard leads the Ivy League contingent and is ranked No. 2.  The men’s lightweight rankings are also out and the Big Green check in at No.  7, down one spot from last week. The Ivy League is well represented on the lightweight side, owning the top five spots in the poll, with the Crimson checking in at No. 1 and Yale at No. 2.
