WORCESTER, Mass. – Spearheaded by a third place finish by the first varsity eight, Dartmouth’s lightweight men’s crew team closed action at the 2013 Eastern Sprints on Sunday (May 19).
The Big Green’s top boat, which placed second in the morning heats with a time of 6:25.53, raced in the grand final for the second consecutive season. It was a tight race for the top three spots with just six seconds separating the three boats. Harvard claimed the top spot with a time of 6:03.07 with Yale coming in second with a time of 6:07.96.
Dartmouth’s second varsity eight placed third in the petite final with a time of 6:52.77. The Big Green crew was just ahead of Georgetown’s boat and was three seconds behind the second-place crew from Penn.
The rookies had a good weekend as well. With a third place finish in the morning heat, Dartmouth’s freshman crew placed fourth in the grand final with a time of 6:37.50, defeating crews from Princeton and Harvard.
The Big Green also boated a third varsity eight, which placed fifth in the morning heat.
Dartmouth will wait to see if it earns a bid to the 2013 IRA National Championships in Sacramento, Calif., on June 2.
