HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth lightweight crew team closed out its weekend of home racing by taking two of three races from the Lions to claim the Subin Cup on Sunday (April 22). Dartmouth has claimed three consecutive Subin Cups and 16 Cups overall.
The Big Green's varsity boats looked strong against the Lions. Dartmouth's top boat cruised to a victory over the Lions, crossing the finish line with a time of 5:33.4, ahead of Columbia who took second place with a time of 5:39.6
The second varsity eight race was very exciting as both crews seemed to keep contact with each other down the race course, but the Dartmouth crew just edged the Lions crew with a time of 5:41.6. Columbia took second with a time of 5:42.8.
The freshman race was arguably the most exciting of the day. The Columbia and Dartmouth crews were neck-and-neck heading into the final 100 meters of the race and the Lions used a quick burst to pull ahead of the Big Green with a time of 5:49.2, just .7 seconds ahead of the Dartmouth crew. The Big Green crossed the line with a time of 5:49.7. Dartmouth's second freshman eight took third with a time of 6:03.4.
Dartmouth closes out the regular-season when it hosts Cornell on Saturday (April 28) for the Baggaley Bowl. Racing is scheduled to get underway at 9:00 a.m. on the Connecticut River.
