HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Dartmouth women’s golf team opened the spring season with a third place finish in the rain-shortened Low Country Intercollegiate contested at the par-72 Moss Creek Plantation on Monday.
The two-day event, hosted by Wofford, was changed to an 18-hole tournament after inclement weather moved through the area on Sunday.
Dartmouth fired an aggregate score of 335 to finish third out of the 16 team field. Western Carolina shot 328 to win the team honors, topping second place Princeton by four shots. Wofford came in fourth with a score of 338 and DePauw rounded out the top five.
The Big Green’s Sarah Knapp carded a six-over par 78 to share top individual honors with Western Carolina’s Mari Kjelldorff. Dating back to September, Knapp has been the top finisher for Dartmouth in the past three tournaments. For the second time in 2012-13, the Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., native shared top individual honors.
Coming in four shots behind Knapp’s pace was Jane Lee. Lee shot a 10-over par 82 to finish in a six-way tie for eighth.
Emily Hyman finished the round in a tie for 20th, shooting a 12-over par 84. Lily Morrison entered the clubhouse in a tie for 56th and Julie Campbell rounded out the field for the Big Green in a tie for 77th.
Dartmouth returns to the links March 31- April 2, as it travels to North Carolina to take part in the Pinehurst Challenge.
