A 5-11, 215-pound senior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Pierre was the workhorse for the Big Green offense, carrying the ball a career-high 37 times for 167 yards, including the game-winning, six-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that broke a 13-13 tie. During that decisive drive, Pierre took the handoff on seven of the 10 plays to cover 35 of the 53 yards Dartmouth traveled for the score. In addition, the product of Calvary Christian Academy became just the third Big Green player to record 2,000 rushing yards in a career with his first run of the second half that went 10 yards. He finished the day with 2,109 yards and needs just 144 more to move into second on Dartmouth’s all-time rushing list.
Playing a key role on the other side of the ball was another senior in Banaciski. The native of Hillsborough, N.J., led the Dartmouth defense with 10 tackles (seven solo), including two in the fourth quarter that went for a loss. But his biggest plays were the two fumble recoveries he made during the second half. With the score tied late in the third quarter, Banaciski jumped on a wayward lateral to give the Big Green great field position at the Bulldog 36. Then with Dartmouth clinging to that seven-point lead and little more than two minutes to go, he covered up another fumble, this one caused by teammate Chase Womack, to help seal the victory and send the more than 10,000 fans home happy.
Pierre is the second Big Green player to be selected as the league’s Offensive Player of the Week, joining sophomore quarterback Dalyn Williams who earned the honor after the season opener at Butler. Banaciski is the first Dartmouth honoree on defense since linebacker Michael Runger took home the award in the 2012 season finale at Princeton.
