Williams, a 5-11, 205-pound quarterback from Corinth, Texas, made his first collegiate start behind center and proceeded to lead the offense to its most points in five years. He completed 14-of-20 passes on the afternoon for 160 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Both of his scoring strikes came in the second quarter, the latter from 22 yards out with just 1.2 seconds remaining in the half.
The first Big Green freshman quarterback to start and win a game since 2005, Williams was just as effective running the ball with 96 yards on just eight carries. Among those rushes was an elusive 35-yard scamper into the end zone that gave the Big Green a 35-7 lead early in the third quarter.
As a team Dartmouth racked up a season-high 490 yards of offense — 330 on the ground — for its second highest output in the past 10 seasons.
Other Big Green players to earn a weekly honor this season are junior running back Dominick Pierre for offense and senior Miles Gay for special teams on Sept. 19, junior linebacker Michael Runger on defense and sophomore kicker Riley Lyons on special teams on Sept. 26, freshman running back Brian Grove as the league’s top rookie on Oct. 8, and junior linebacker Bronson Green for defense on Oct. 22.
