HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth freshman Brian Grove was chosen as the Ivy League Football Rookie of the Week for his performance in the 34-14 victory at Yale on Saturday. He is the fifth Big Green player to earn a player of the week honor this season, and the first from the program to receive the rookie award since current linebacker Bronson Green in the 2010 season.

Grove, a 5-10, 190-pound running back out of Kings Academy from West Palm Beach, Fla., stepped into a more prominent role when starter Dominick Pierre was sidelined with an injury in the third quarter. As the featured back, he took a handoff 10 times for 38 yards and caught one pass for nine yards. With Dartmouth clinging to a six-point lead in the middle of the fourth quarter, Grove caught a key third-down pass to give the offense a first-and-goal at the nine. On the very next play, he gave them some breathing room with a nine-yard scamper into the end zone for his first collegiate touchdown, then added a one-yard dive in the final minute to seal the victory.

Other Big Green players to earn a weekly honor this season are Pierre for offense and senior Miles Gay for special teams on Sept. 19, and junior linebacker Michael Runger for defense and sophomore kicker Riley Lyons for special teams on Sept. 26.

This Saturday, Dartmouth (3-1, 1-1 Ivy) will play its final non-conference game of the season when Sacred Heart comes to Memorial Field in Hanover at 1:30 p.m. The Big Green are looking to win all of its non-league tilts for the second time in three years, having already defeated Butler and Holy Cross. Dick Lutsk and Wayne Young ’72 will call all of the action and can be heard on WFRD 99.3 FM. Fans can also watch the game online live in HD by subscribing to Big Green Insider on DartmouthSports.com.
