HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth College and the Robert L. Blackman Head Football Coach Buddy Teevens announced the hiring of Kevin Lewis to the football staff today. Lewis will serve as the defensive line coach for the Big Green, after spending the past three seasons on the football staff at the University of Richmond.
A 2005 graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in history, Lewis was hired by the Spiders in February 2009 as the assistant defensive line coach before being promoted to defensive line coach following the 2010 campaign. During his tenure, Richmond posted a 20-15 record, including an 11-2 mark in 2009 when the Spiders reached the NCAA FCS Quarterfinals. One of his linemen, Martin Parker, was a first-team All-American in 2010 and was a member of the Super Bowl champion New York Giants this past year.
Lewis was a three-year starter for the Hokies, helping them win the 2004 ACC Championship and playing in four bowl games. As a junior he contributed 43 tackles and four sacks. After graduating, he played professionally for the Hamburg Sea Devils in NFL Europe for three months before being picked up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A product of Varina High School in Richmond, Lewis returned there to begin his coaching career with one of the top defensive line units in the state in August 2007. Several of his players went on to Division I and II careers, and he assisted with the players’ college recruiting process as well as strength and conditioning.
Lewis is also the founder of Blackstock & Lewis LLC, a local company in Richmond that performs position-specific football clinics for area youths. He is married to the former Miyah Jones.
