HANOVER, N.H. — Quarterbacks Thomas Militello and Ernest Evans II combined for 19-of-33 passing for 197 yards and two touchdowns Sunday but it wasn’t enough as Williams used a touchdown on its final possession to defeat the Dartmouth junior varsity, 18-12.
Jon Marc Carrier was on the receiving end of five passes for 84 yards and a 34-yard touchdown pass from Militello (11-of-16 for 103 yards). Houston Brown caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Evans (8-of-17 for 94 yards).
Jacob Siwicki did yeoman work for Dartmouth, carrying 10 times for 49 yards and catching five passes for another 27.
The game was played with no kickoffs, points after or live punts and a running clock for most of the game. Evans, in particular, was hampered by the rules with the Dartmouth quarterbacks being whistled down without tackling.
Trailing, 12-6 as the fourth quarter began, Dartmouth knotted the score on Militello’s 34-yard strike to Carrier with 9:58 left.
Williams responded with a 65-yard drive that ended with 6-foot-5, 235-pound Lewis Hayes catching his third TD pass from quarterback Mark Pomella with 1:45 remaining.
Dartmouth used three consecutive Evans completions to bring the ball down to the Williams 28 but a desperation pass as time ran out was knocked down at the edge of the end zone.
Brian Fordon led Dartmouth with eight tackles. Jake Young had a fumble recovery and Daniel Gorman averaged 42 yards on two punts for the Big Green.
Dartmouth is back in action Oct. 20 against Norwich University in a passing scrimmage.
