HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth diving coach Chris Hamilton was awarded the Bruce Hutchinson Award from his alma mater, Southern Connecticut State, earlier this year.

The award, named after longtime Southern Connecticut State swimming coach Bruce Hutchinson, is given to a former swimmer or diver that has given back to the sport of swimming. Hutchinson has over 100 former athletes that are now in the coaching ranks.

Hamilton, a 1995 graduate of Southern Connecticut State, was an accomplished diver throughout his collegiate career. In 1993 Hamilton was the National Champion on the 1-meter and earned Division II "Diver of the Year" accolades. A five-time All-American, Hamilton was New England Division I and II Diver of the Year in 1993 and was a two-time New England Division I and II 3-meter champion.

The Big Green diving coach is in his 14th year at Dartmouth and has established one of the top diving programs in the Ivy League. Under his tutelage, Dartmouth has qualified 22 different divers for the NCAA Zone Championships and has produced 24 Academic All-Americans. Hamilton has coached both Dartmouth's men's and women's record holders in Andrew Berry and Danielle Fritze as well as pool record holder, Erica Serpico.

Hamilton has more than 20 years of coaching experience, having assisted for many years at the college level prior to Dartmouth. In New Haven, Conn., Hamilton coached at Albertus Magnus before moving on to Southern Connecticut State in 1996-97, where he coached six Division II All-America divers and one national champion.

Before coming to Dartmouth, Hamilton was an assistant diving coach at Brandon (Fla.) Swim and Tennis Club, where he worked with the U.S. diving and summer camp divers. One of the divers he worked with is the 2005 NCAA Champion and Olympic Diver, Chris Colwill of Georgia.

Hamilton and the Big Green are preparing for the Ivy League Championships. The women's championships will be held Feb. 28-March 2 in Princeton, N.J., while the men's championship is March 7-9 in Providence, R.I.
