Northeast Credit Union Athlete of the Week - Zupan & Gribbin
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding
student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Northeast Credit Union
Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their
efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Nejc Zupan, (Kamnik, Slovenia) Sr., Men's Swimming
Nejc Zupan picked up three individual titles and a relay titles in Dartmouth's Ivy League dual meet against Penn and Yale. He set a new pool record in the 200 breststroke with his time of 2:00.12 and also won the 100 breaststroke (56.15) and the 200 IM (1:51.07). Zupan's events helped the Big Green men claim a road victory over Penn, the first since the 1990-91 season and the first road win since the 1989-90 season. Zupan, who earned an NCAA A cut at the Brown Invitational in Dec., will represent Dartmouth at the NCAA Championships in March.
Mollie Gribbin, (South Burlington, Vt.) Fr., Sprints, Track and Field
Making her home debut for the Big Green, Gribbin had a stellar first meet at the 2013 Dartmouth Relays Sunday afternoon. She started by breaking the program record in the 60 meters with a 7.79 in the prelims, only to re-break that mark an hour later by winning the finals of the event in 7.76. Gribbin also took second in the long jump with a measured distance of 17-6.0/5.33m. It wasn't done for the first-year student-athlete after just two events. Gribbin also ran the anchor of the 4x200-meter relay that claimed the top spot in 1:44.70. In all, Gribbin helped contribute a combined 28 points to Dartmouth's team score.
