The Big Green heavyweight crew team is the only squad in action this weekend as they close out the regular season at Syracuse. The race against the Orange will serve as the final Cup race for Dartmouth as the team’s battle for the Packard Cup.

Big Green Tidbits
Final Race of the Regular Season –
The heavyweight crew team will race compete in its final race of the regular season on Saturday when they head to Syracuse to battle for the Packard Cup. Dartmouth is looking to close the season with its first Cup victory.

 Packard Cup On The Line – Dartmouth is looking to bring the Packard Cup back to Hanover this season. The Big Green last won the Packard Cup in 2010 – its first win since 2005. This race is arguably one of the best each season for the Big Green. Over the course of the last three seasons, the race has been decided by less than four seconds.

 Windermere Cup Recap – Last weekend, the top two boats from the heavyweight and women’s crew teams participated in the prestigious Windermere Cup hosted by the University of Washington. It was the first time that Dartmouth has raced in the annual event, which signals the opening day of boating in Seattle. Cornell also participated in this year’s event. The Big Green boats took third place in all four races.

 Westward Movement – The Big Green’s trip to the West Coast marked the first trip out West for the crew teams during the regular-season in the last eight years. The teams have both traveled west for postseason racing.

Postseason On Deck – The Big Green teams are each gearing up for the postseason. The men’s lightweight and heavyweight crew teams will race for a spot in the IRA Championships at the Eastern Sprints in Worcester, Mass., on May 19, while the women’s team will head to the Ivy League Championships on May 19 in Camden, N.J. The women’s NCAA Championship will be held May 31-June 2 in Indianapolis, Ind., while IRAs will be held June 2 in Sacramento, Calif.

Dartmouth Women Receiving Votes in CRCA Poll – The Big Green women’s squad is receiving votes in this week’s edition of the CRCA/USARowing Coaches Poll. The Big Green have six votes in the weekly poll. The Ivy League is well represented as Princeton has a No. 5 ranking this week to lead the Ancient Eight schools. Harvard (8), Yale (9), Brown (12), Columbia (15) and Cornell (17) are also ranked.

Big Green Men Getting Votes Too! – The men’s heavyweight first varsity eight is ranked No. 16 this week, maintaining its ranking from last week. Harvard leads the Ivy League contingent and is ranked No. 2.  The men’s lightweight rankings are also out and the Big Green check in at No.  6, down one spot from last week. The Ivy League is well represented on the lightweight side, owning the top six spots in the poll, with the Crimson checking in at No. 1 and Yale at No. 2.

Healey Takes Over Lightweight Program – The Big Green welcomed Sean Healey to the lightweight crew family last summer, when he was named head coach, taking over for Dan Roock. Healey spent the previous six seasons as the freshman lightweight coach at his alma mater, Cornell.

Bordeaus Return to Coach Heavyweights and Women’s SquadsWendy Bordeau and Topher Bordeau return to coach the women and men’s heavyweight squads. Wendy is in her ninth season as head coach and is assisted by former Dartmouth rower, Anne Kennedy. Topher Bordeau is in his eighth season at Dartmouth and is assisted by former Dartmouth rower, Andrew Hilton, who is in his third season.
