CAMDEN, N.J.- The Dartmouth heavyweight freshmen eight placed sixth in its semifinal race on Friday (June 1), ensuring them a spot in Saturday's petite final at the 2012 IRA National Championship on the Cooper River.

The race, scheduled to be an morning race, was postponed 75 minutes due to inclement weather in the area and went down the course at 1:15 p.m.

The Dartmouth freshmen eight, who reached the petite final for the second consecutive season, wad the lone Big Green boat to advance to the semifinals and crossed the finish line with a time of 6:31.08, trailing fellow Ivy League crews Princeton and Yale.

The Big Green semifinal was very competitive with just nine seconds separating third through sixth place.

Both semifinal heats were won by West coast crews, Washington claimed the first heat with a time of 6:03.21 - the fastest time of the day, while California won the second heat with a time of 6:10.81.

Dartmouth closes out action at IRAs on Saturday. The first and second varsity eights and the varsity four will race in third level finals and the freshmen eight will race in the petite final.
