Men's Heavyweight Crew Heads to Wisconsin For Cochrane Cup

The Dartmouth men's heavyweight team travels to Wisconsin to take on the Badgers and MIT in the battle for the Cochrane Cup this weekend. Wisconsin will host the racing on Devil's Lake.

Big Green TidbitsBig Green Head to Wisconsin - The Big Green will make its longest road trip of the season when it travels to Wisconsin this weekend to take on the host Badgers and MIT for the Cochrane Cup. The last time Dartmouth traveled to face Wisconsin was during the 2009 season although the race was actually held in Chicago, Ill.

Dartmouth Drops Atalanta Cup - Brown claimed wins in each of the four races last weekend in Providence, R.I. Dartmouth was looking for its first Atalanta Cup win since the 2003 season.

Cochrane Cup on the Line  - The Big Green will battle Wisconsin and MIT for the Cochrane Cup this weekend. The Big Green is looking for its first Cochrane Cup win since 2005.

CMax Rankings Released - This week's CMax rankings were released on Wednesday (April 25). The Big Green checks in at No. 16 with the first varsity eight boat 20.7 seconds behind leader Washington. The CMax rankings are used to provide a relative estimate of how fast a team is.

Big Green at No. 15 in this Week's USRowing Collegiate Poll - The Dartmouth heavyweight crew's first varsity eight is ranked No. 15 in this week's USRowing Collegiate Poll released on Wednesday (April 25). Ivy League foes, Harvard (No. 2), Brown (No. 3), Cornell (No. 6) , Princeton (No. 8), Yale (No. 12), Columbia (No. 14) and Penn (No. 16) are also ranked. Additionally, Big Green opponents Wisconsin (No. 7), Boston University (No. 13) and Syracuse (No. 11) are also ranked.

EARC Seedings Out - The second EARC seeding poll was released on April 25. Dartmouth's varsity eight and second varsity eight check in at No. 12 while the freshman eight is at No. 9.

Welcome to the Big Green Team - The heavyweight squad features 12 newcomers this season. The Big Green add rowers, Paul Champeau (Hillsborough, Calif.), Henry Franco (New Canaan, Conn.), Andrew Kenealy (Sudbury, Mass.), Maxamillian Kinne (Longmeadow, Mass.), Stuart Maeder (Washington, D.C.), Alec Marchuk (Lake Placid, N.Y.), Richard Newsome-White (Christchurch, New Zealand) Brett Nicholas (Laguna Hills, Calif.) Bryan Rogers (Melville, N.Y.), and Robert Truesdale (Dover, Mass.). Alexander Steele (Orinda, Calif.) and Erica McGale (Irvine, Calif.) are both coxswains.

Dartmouth Opens Season Ranked No. 17 in USRowing Collegiate Poll - The Big Green, earned a No. 17 ranking in the first poll of the 2012 season released on March 28. The poll ranks the top men's varsity eights throughout the country. Harvard has the top boat while Washington, Cal, Princeton and Wisconsin round out the top five. Other league boats receiving votes are Yale at No. 6, Brown at No. 7, Cornell at No. 8, Columbia at No. 13 and Penn at No. 16.  

Two Home Races on Tap - Dartmouth crew fans will have two instances in which they can catch the Big Green on the Connecticut River this season. The men will host Boston University and Rutgers on April 14 and will close the season by welcoming Syracuse to Hanover on May 20.

Leader of the Pack - Head coach Topher Bordeau returns for his sixth season as the man in charge of the Dartmouth heavyweight crew team. Bordeau is assisted by former Dartmouth rower, Andrew Hilton, who has been a member of the staff since 2010.
