LINZ, Austria – Dartmouth’s Brendon Stoner was part of a U.S. crew that earned a silver medal in the Men’s Eight last weekend at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships.

Stoner, a native of Sudbury, Mass., was part of a young team that rebounded from finishing third in their opening heat. The American squad had the challenge of defending back-to-back world championships and did so admirably, winning their repechage en route to a second-place finish in the final.

New Zealand took gold, crossing the finishing line just over three seconds before Stoner and company. It was a dramatic comeback in the last race for the United States as it was in last place at the 500-meter mark. The crew fought its way through the field and jumped into second place at the 1,500-meter line as it held off the competition for a third consecutive medal.

Of the 20 U.S. crews that participated in the event, the Men’s Eight was one of four that earned medals.
