HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth heavyweight crew team handed out its annual awards recently. The Big Green handed out four awards and named their 2013-14 captains.

Senior captain Ryan Ganong (Wellesley, Mass.) took home the Peter Gardner Award for Senior Leadership.  Ganong captained the Big Green to their 15th consecutive IRA National Championship berth and a fourth level final victory.

Junior Brendon Stoner (Sudbury, Mass.) claimed the Most Improved Award. A member of the first varsity eight, Stoner will also participate in the US Rowing U-23 National Team selection camp, in the hopes of being chosen to participate in the World Championships in Lithuania. 

Freshman Jake Esse (Fairfield, Conn.) took home the Marshall Robinson Award For Greatest Contribution by a Freshman. Esse, also a member of Dartmouth’s first varsity eight, helped the Big Green to a Packard Cup victory over Syracuse, the first Packard Cup win since 2010.  Rounding out the awards, Will Johnson (Tarrytown, N.Y.) took home the Novice award.

The Big Green also named captains for the 2013-14 season. John Strizich (San Francisco, Calif.) and Stuart Maeder (Washington, D.C.) will captain the squad next season.
