Q and A with Joshua
I grew up on a farm, so I wanted to go to school in a somewhat rural area. Dartmouth fit the bill perfectly. On top of that, when I took my official
visit, the people seemed very friendly and laid-back, which sealed the deal for me.
How long have you been rowing and what got you interested in rowing?
I have been rowing for four years. My uncle was a rower for a time at the University of Wisconsin, which was how I knew the sport existed. I have
always been drawn to water (boating, swimming, etc.), which heightened my interest. On top of that, I had very little athletic experience in my
freshman year of high school, and rowing did not require any. So, I tried out for my high school's team and fell in love with rowing.
Have you won any academic or rowing rewards lately?
Not since high school. I have two bronze medals from Scholastic Nationals, one for the Varisty 4 and one for the Lightweight 4. I was a high school
valedictorian as well.
Something interesting that might come as a surprise to your teammates
Part of my offseason training program in high school included stacking hay bales and splitting wood.
What other activities do you participate in on campus?
Dartmouth Society of Investment and Economics
What are your future plans, if any?
I plan to major in Economics, hopefully Finance. I am also thinking about getting involved with the US under-23 national team, depending on how things work out at Dartmouth.
