BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team continued its strong start to the season with a 193-107 dual meet win over Vermont on Sunday (Jan. 15). The Big Green won 12 of a possible 16 events and set two new pool records.
The Big Green, who moved to 4-2 in dual meet action this season, opened the meet with a win in the 200-medley relay. The team of senior co-captain Galen Barry (Wayne, Pa.), Charlotte Williams (Boca Raton, Fla.), Kendall Farnham (Severna Park, Md.) and Siobhan Hengemuhle (Boulder, Colo.) touch the wall with a time of 1:50.33 to start the Big Green off on the right foot.
Danielle Kerr (Gainesville, Fla.) continued her dominance in the distance events by setting a new Forbush Natatorium record in the 1650 free. Kerr, fresh of a win in the 1000 free against Yale and Penn on Saturday, took first place against the Catamounts with a time of 17:13.33, finishing 12 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor and besting the old record by over 30 seconds.
The Big Green divers also had a good day. Senior Erica Serpico (Moorestown, N.J.) qualified for the NCAA Zone Championship on the 1-meter after winning the event with a score of 268.72 ahead of teammate Katy Feng (Westford, Mass.) who took second with a score of 266.24. Serpico and Feng also finished 1-2 on the 3-meter with scores of 264.00 and 258.33, respectively.
The 100 free races saw Dartmouth go 1-2-3 with Hengenmule taking top honors with a time of 53.67. Mary Van Metre (Edina, Minn.) took second with a time of 53.88 while Teva Levens (Palo Alto, Calif.) rounded out the top three with a time of 54.36.
Dartmouth closed the meet by setting a new pool record in the 200 free relay. The team of Christine Kerr (Gainesville, Fla.), Danielle Kerr (Gainesville, Fla.), Sasha Alcon (Fremont, Calif.) and Elizabeth Kamai (Corte Madera, Calif.) took first with a time of 1:39.35 just ahead of teammates Levens, Kirstin Hocheder (Tucson, Ariz.), Caitlin Nicholson (Ithaca, N.Y.) and Van Metre who took runner up honors with a time of 1:41.35.
The Big Green women are next in action next week when they host in-state rival, New Hampshire at Karl Michael Pool on Saturday (Jan. 21). The meet is schedule to start at 1 p.m. The women and men's squads are back in action together Jan. 27-28 for the second annual Dartmouth Invitational at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River, Vt.
