HANOVER, N.H. – With the season a little over a month away, head coach Barry Harwick ’77 has announced the seven incoming student-athletes joining the Dartmouth men’s cross country team this fall.

Nat Adams (Lexington, Mass.), Connor Clark (Mill Valley, Calif.), Julian Heninger (Lake Oswego, Ore.), Matt Herzig (Weston, Mass.), Jan Ketterson (Bloomington, Minn.), John “Mac” Emery (New Hope, Pa.) and Daniel Salas (Winter Park, Fla.) will all make up the Class of 2017 set to make their Big Green debut come September.

"The 2013 cross country teams looks to be one of the deepest in recent history,” Harwick said. “We will be dominated by seniors up front with the Class of 2014 projected to form four of the top-seven, but we will also be planning for the future with a deep and talented group of incoming freshmen.

“We cast a wide net last year in our recruiting efforts and came back with top runners from Oregon, California and Florida. All of those runners will get a chance to compete this fall and will also be learning our training program behind the leadership of our veterans," Harwick continued.

Adams was the Middlesex League Meet individual cross country champion as a senior in 2012, while helping earn a team championship in the process. Clark was named his school’s Male Athlete of the Year as a senior in 2012-13 after a third-place showing at the Division 5 California State Cross Country Championship Meet last fall, his second top-five finish in the event.

Heninger was the district champion in cross country as a senior, while a state champion in the 3000m during the outdoor season. Herzig won the 2013 Eastern Massachusetts Division IV individual state championship in the two-mile race during indoor season after having claimed the individual county cross country championship as a senior in the fall.

Ketterson was a four-time all-conference runner in cross country, earning all-state honors as a senior while at Jefferson High School. Emery was hampered by injury his senior season, but put together a solid junior campaign that included a 9:11 in the 3200m during the outdoor season.

Wrapping up the incoming class, Salas won the 2013 FHSAA IA State Championship in the 3000m in a school-record 9:17 and finished as the runner-up in the 2011 and 2012 cross country state meet. He was also named the 2012-13 Bright House Orange County Scholar Athlete of the Year for his work in the classroom as well as against some of Florida’s top competition.

The Big Green get the season started on Saturday, Sept. 14 when they host their annual Dartmouth Invitational at the Hanover Country Club.
