HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's cross country team will begin the 2012 season ranked fifth in the Northeast Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The annual preseason regional rankings were announced Monday morning with the Big Green jumping up one spot from their sixth-place finish at the conclusion of the 2011 season last November.

Herbert Chase Head Coach Barry Harwick is back for his 19th season and will see a strong Dartmouth team led on the course by senior Jonathan Gault (Bedford, Mass.) and junior John Bleday (Westwood, Mass.) this fall.

Fans of the Green and White should also expect juniors Steve Mangan (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) and Henry Sterling (South Freeport, Maine) along with senior Adam Doherty (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) to contribute on a weekly basis to the team's point totals.

The season gets underway on Sept. 8 at the Hanover Country Club Course as the team hosts the annual Dartmouth Invitational. That meet will also serve as the 25th anniversary of the 1987 team that not only won Heps, but also finished as the National Runner-Up at the NCAA Championship Meet.
