NEW ORLEANS - Sophomores Abbey D'Agostino (Topsfield, Mass.) and John Bleday (Westfield, Mass.) of the Dartmouth women's and men's cross country teams have both been named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Cross Country All-Academic Honorees.
Bleday is just one of 58 men from across the nation to earn the distinction for his work in the classroom and on the course, while D'Agostino was one of 104 honored on the women's side.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 and have either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the NCAA region's top 15 (or top 10 percent) in 2011.
Both Bleday and D'Agostino were also named Academic All-Ivy for the fall.
D'Agostino placed third at the NCAA Championships (highest finish ever by a Dartmouth runner) to earn first-team All-America honors. She also won the Northeast Regional and the Ivy League Heptagonal Championship. Bleday placed 22nd at the Northeast Regional and 17th at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championship.
Both are sophomores and are currently undeclared.
