HANOVER, N.H. – On the third day of the ECAC Indoor Championship on Sunday, the No. 3 seeded Dartmouth men’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker to No. 2 seed Columbia at the Boss Tennis Center.
The defeat was the first for the Big Green in the Upper Valley this season, while the Lions advance to tomorrow’s championship match.
Dartmouth got off to a quick start, taking two of the three doubles matches to earn the first point of the day. At No. 1, Cameron Ghorbani and Brendan Tannenbaum topped the No. 10 ranked duo of Mike Vermeer and Winston Lin, 6-3. The Big Green’s top tandem continued their strong play early in the year. The Green and White’s other victory came from Brandon DeBot and Dovydas Sakinis at No. 2.
In singles action, Columbia rallied to take four of the six matches to move on. The Dartmouth players to win their singles matches were Chris Kipouras and Ghorbani. Ghorbani won in straight sets, 6-5, 6-1, at No. 4, while Kipouras netted a three-set come from behind win at No. 2.
The Big Green conclude the annual event tomorrow, Feb. 17, playing in the third-place match against loser of the Harvard-Cornell match taking place later this evening.
