WILLIAMSBURG, VA. — The Dartmouth men's tennis team finished its play at the Tribe Kickoff Tournament with a 4-0 victory against host William & Mary. The win moved the Big Green to 3-0 overall, while the Tribe fell to 4-3.
Dartmouth took the doubles' point after winning two of the three matches. Junior Alex de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif.) and senior Michael Laser (Glencoe, Ill.) won at first doubles, 8-2, and junior Mike Jacobs (Oak Park, Ill.) and freshman Chris Kipouras (San Ramon, Calif.) earned the victory at third doubles, 9-7.
In singles, freshman Sam Todd (Encinitas, Calif.) pushed the lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over John Banks at sixth singles. At fourth singles, Kipouras won his first set, 6-0, but William & Mary's Ben Hoogland took the second, 6-3, to force the match to a third set. Kipouras bounced back to win the third easily, 6-1.
After dropping the first set, 6-4, sophomore Cameron Ghorbani (Lexington, Mass.) won the final two sets, 6-3, 6-4, at second singles to secure the team victory for the Big Green. The other three singles matches were abandoned because the tournament rules dictated the first team to the required four points won the match.
Dartmouth has its first home match of the year on Saturday, Feb. 4, when it hosts Stony Brook at 1 p.m.
