WILLIAMSBURG, VA. — The Dartmouth men's tennis team opened the winter season this weekend at the Tribe Kickoff Weekend hosted by Williams & Mary. The Big Green won their first match of the day against George Washington, 4-2, and then bested Iowa in the second match, 4-3, to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Colonials fell to 1-1 and the Hawkeyes dropped to 0-2. In both matches, the contests ended as soon as one of the teams reached the required four points to secure the match.

In the second match of the day, Dartmouth lost the doubles points, but came back to win four of the six singles matches to secure the victory. Freshman Chris Kipouras (San Ramon, Calif.) notched the first point for the Big Green with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at second singles. Senior Chris Ho (Los Altos, Calif.) won at fifth singles to tie the score at 2. Sophomore Brandon DeBot (Stevens Point, Wis.) pushed the Big Green lead to 3-2 with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at third singles.

The Hawkeyes tied the match at three with a win at second singles, but senior Michael Laser (Glencoe, Ill.) gave the Big Green the victory with a 7-6, 06, 6-1 win at first singles.

Against George Washington, Dartmouth took the doubles' points after winning at the second and third spots. DeBot and sophomore Cameron Ghorbani (Lexington, Mass.) won at second doubles, 8-5, and junior Mike Jacobs (Oak Park, Ill.) and Kipouras won at third, 8-5.

In singles, Ghorbani won at the second spot, 6-4, 6-4, and the team earned a win at sixth singles by default. Kipouras secured the match at fourth singles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.

The event continues on Sunday with Dartmouth taking on the host William & Mary at 10 a.m.
