HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men’s tennis team opened the season with a pair of shutout victories on Saturday inside Boss Tennis Center and Gordon Pavilion. The Big Green began the day with a 7-0 win against Bryant and closed it out with an equally impressive triumph versus Villanova.

Dartmouth swept its opening weekend of play for the second time in the past three seasons. The contest was the season opener for the Bulldogs, who later topped the Wildcats to move to 1-1 on the young campaign. In its first competitive action of the spring season, Villanova is now 0-2.

The Dartmouth No. 1 doubles tandem of Cameron Ghorbani and Brendan Tannenbaum were dominant on the day, surrendering just two games in two wins. At No. 2, Dovydas Sakinis and Brandon DeBot defeated a duo from Villanova, 6-0, and had had their match against Bryant halted after the Big Green secured the point. Sam Todd and Erik Nordahl also surrendered just three points in their two combined wins at No. 3 for the Green and White.

In singles action, Dartmouth won all six of its matches in straight sets versus the Bulldogs and five-of-six against the Wildcats. Sakinis, George Wall and Diego Pedraza won both of their matches handily for the Big Green, as all three won in two sets.

The Big Green return to the courts next weekend, Jan. 24-25, traveling to Oklahoma to square off with Arkansas and Oklahoma State in non-conference action. The tilt with the Razorbacks is set for 11 a.m. on Friday and the contest with the Cowboys gets underway Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
