KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — The Dartmouth men’s golf team dropped one spot on the overall team leaderboard at the Irish Creek Invitational to conclude the 16-team tournament with a 35-over 887. Sophomore John Lazor led the Big Green on Sunday with his best round of the tournament with a two-over 73 after sinking five birdies on the day.

Lazor shared the honors as the top finisher for Dartmouth with his nine-over 222 (75-74-73) with 10 birdies over the three rounds on the par-71, 7,099-yard course. Another underclassman, Will Bednarz, joined him with a 222 after a six-over 77 today.

Junior Ian Kelsey could not duplicate his two-under 69 from the second round to conclude the tournament, producing a seven-over 78 to fall back into a tie for 68th, one stroke behind Lazor and Bednarz, though he did match Lazor with 10 birdies. Senior Sean Fahey, like Bednarz, shot a 77 in the third round and completed the tournament in a tie for 79th with a 73-77-77—227 (+14). The Big Green finished behind the six programs ranked among the top-50 in Division I, including North Florida (42nd), Wake Forest (eighth) and Florida State (31st) who finished in the top three slots, respectively. The Ospreys won the team title by carding an 838 (-6), two strokes ahead of the Demon Deacons, who took over second place with a little help from a hole-in-one scored by Kyle Sterbinsky on the par-3, 211-yard 15th hole.

No less than 18 players finished the tournament under par, led by Florida State’s Cristobal Del Solar who sank four birdies in the final round to put him at 68 (-3) for the day with a winning total of 205 (-8). His teammate Josh lee, fell a pace behind him with a 206 (-7) while third was held by fellow Sunshine State competitor Andrew Alligood from North Florida, just one stroke short of Lee.
