OWINGS MILLS, MD. – The Dartmouth men’s golf team opened the 2013 Ivy League Championship firing an aggregate total of 303 to sit in a tie for fifth place after the first round.

The Ivy League Championship is a three-day, 54-hole event contested at the 6,908 yard, par-70 Caves Valley Golf Club.

Penn shot 292 to hold a six stroke lead over second place Princeton heading into the second round. Columbia and Yale carded team scores of 301 to sit in third, while Harvard and the Big Green rounded out the top five.

Penn’s Max Marisco shot a two-under par 68 to hold a three-stroke lead heading into the second day of the tournament.

The low scorer for the Big Green was senior James Pleat. Pleat shot a three-over-par 73 to enter the clubhouse in a tie for fifth after the first round.

Three shot’s behind Pleat’s pace was Charlie Edler. Edler carded a six-over-par 76 to earn a share a 15th place.

Joey Maziar and Harry Boling were one shot behind Edler, shooting 77’s. Rounding out the field for the Big Green was Charles Cai with an 82.

Dartmouth returns to the links for the second round of the tournament Saturday, April 27.
