HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth freshman Tara Simmons (Goldsboro, N.C.) is one of 10 women that will play for the 2014 All-Star Golf Team comprised of outstanding NCAA student-athletes on a three-week tour of the Orient this summer. This is the 31st annual tour for the team for the purpose of promoting good will between East and West.
The team, which was the first collegiate team to play in the People’s Republic of China since the revolution in 1949, will make stops in Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong during this tour. During the trip, the team will compete in a series of Pro-Am type, corporate and public relations outings as well as competitive matches against All-Star teams of the countries visited.
Simmons continually improved during the spring, producing her best round at the Ivy League Championship at Baltusrol with a four-over 76 on the first day of competition. She finished in 24th place at the event and produced a stroke average of 84.1 in four events overall.
Simmons and the rest of the team will arrive in Los Angeles on June 24 and play in an NCAA All-Star Invitational the following day before departing for Japan on June 26. After three weeks of golf and sightseeing, the team will fly out of Hong Kong back to the United States on July 17.
