Riding a 13-game winning streak, the Dartmouth softball team heads to Providence, R.I., to meet Brown in a four-game series over the weekend. Both doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday will begin at 12:30 p.m
RUN THE TABLE
If the Big Green want to set a program-record in wins, the team will need to run the table with nine regular season games remaining. In the 2000 season, the Big Green set a best with 32 wins in 48 games. Under former head coach Steffany Bender, the six-year old program finished in second place in the league behind Harvard
Unlike the Big Green, who are riding high this season, Brown is currently trying to find its stride and enters the weekend after dropping its last 25 games and are now 2-28 on the season and 0-12 in league play. Offense has been at minimum in Providence, as the team is batting .209 with just six home runs and 58 runs scored. Christina Andrews has been asked to perform multiple duties this season, leading the team in hitting, at .329 and also moonlighting as a pitcher. Jessica Cherness has made 21 appearances inside the circle with a 1-10 record and a 5.14 ERA
THIRD TIME’S A CHARM
Junior Kristen Rumley once again showed why she is a dominant pitcher in the Ivy League, claiming her third Pitcher of the Week award. The Katy, Texas native went 2-0 in three appearances with a complete game in 17.2 innings inside the circle. Rumley also fanned 15 batters with just two walks issued. Rumley also helped her cause over the week with a .444 batting average, including eight hits and three RBI
Sophomore Morgan McCalmon has hit safely in 14 straight games and has 23 of her 31 hits during that stretch. McCalmon has been named the Ivy Player of the Week twice during her streak and has four home runs with 19 RBI.
Freshman Karen Chaw is nearing her own double-digit hitting streak, as the right fielder has hit in nine consecutive games. Chaw has one home run and five RBI in the nine game span and has pushed her batting average over .300
DAMORE, MORE MORE
Freshman Maddie Damore hit .385 last week, which included a rare feat, nailing three home runs in a single-Ivy game. She completed the weekend with eight RBI and one double. In game two of Saturday's sweep over the Yale Bulldogs, Damore hit three consecutive home runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. She is the first Ivy freshman to clip three homers since Cornell’s Kate Varde hit three against the Big Green on April 13, 2001. Damore added her final RBI of the weekend in the nightcap of Sunday's series sweep over Yale.
