Softball Welcomes Class of 2017
HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth softball team, fresh off its record setting 2013 season will welcome six student-athletes to the Dartmouth Softball Park for the 2013-14 season. Karen Chaw (Castro Valley, Calif.), Madeline Damore (Campbell, Calif.), Alyssa Jorgenson (The Woodlands, Texas), Alyssa Loyless (Lake Elsinore, Calif.), Chloe Madill (Goleta, Calif.) and Ashley Sissel (Wichita Falls, Texas) will don the Green and White next season.
“This class is another great addition for Dartmouth softball,” said third-year head coach Rachel Hanson. “They'll undoubtedly make an impact in terms of production, but just as important, they'll raise the level of expectations in terms of hard work, dedication, accountability and competitive intensity. I'm looking forward to getting started this fall.”
Castro Valley, Calif./Castro Valley HS
Four-year letterwinner at Castro Valley HS … Senior captain … Led her team to four consecutive HAAL League Championships … Three-time first-team All-HAAL selection … Named West Alameda County Conference League Player of The Year as a senior … Team switched to the WACC League for her senior year … Four-time NCS Scholar-Athlete … Member of the California Scholarship Foundation … Also participated in Link crew, Girl Scouts and Choir.
“A catcher/third baseman from California, Karen plays with a high level of energy and intensity. She's a great field commander and gets it done with her stick as well. I anticipate that she'll compete for time behind the dish immediately.”
Campbell, Calif./St. Francis HS
Four-year letterwinner at St. Francis HS … Second-team All-WCAL selection as a junior … Named Best All-Around Player and Coaches Award during her junior year … Four-time Scholar Athlete … Four-year honor roll member.
“Maddie is a late pickup from California that we're excited about. She swings a heavy stick and should give us an offensive option as a freshman. She'll fit right into our culture of hard work.”
The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS
Four-year letterwinner at The Woodlands HS, where she was coached by her father, Richard Jorgenson … Senior captain … Led her team to four consecutive district championships … As a sophomore, squad won the state and national championship with a 44-1 record … Four-time all-district and Academic All-District selection … All-State first-team selection as a sophomore, earned second-team honors as a junior … Member of the state tournament all-tournament team as a sophomore … Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore … Two-time Team Heart award winner … All-Greater Houston selection as a junior and preseason All-Greater Houston selection as a senior.
“Alyssa is a state champion that hails from Texas. She's been a leader on teams with a high level of excellence and winning traditions. We're very excited about her abilities from the left side of the plate, as well as her hands on defense. We expect that she'll make an immediate impact.”
Lake Elsinore, Calif./San Juan Hills /Lakeside HS
Three-year letterwinner at Lakeside HS… Spent her freshman year at San Juan Hills … Served as team captain as a junior and senior … Led team to back-to-back Sunbelt League Championships … Four-time Scholar-Athlete award recipient … First-team All-Sunbelt D4 as a sophomore … Earned second-team honors as a junior … Valedictorian of her class.
“The first time I saw Alyssa play, I knew I wanted her on my team. She swings out of her shoes every at-bat with no fear of failure. She has a great attitude and will contribute positively to our team environment both on and off the field.”
Goleta, Calif./Dos Pueblos HS
Four-year letterwinner at Dos Pueblos HS … Captained her squad as a junior and senior … Led her team to back-to-back Channel League championships during her sophomore and junior seasons … Squad claimed the 2010-11 CIF Division 4 Championship … First-team All-CIF Division as a junior … Two-time second-team All-Channel League selection … First-team All-Channel League selection as a junior … Voted Most Inspirational Varsity Player as a sophomore and junior … Member of the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society and California Scholarship Federation.

Wichita Falls, Texas/S. H Rider HS
Three-sport athlete at S.H. Rider HS… Four-year softball letterwinner … Senior captain … Led her team to back-to-back area championships … Squad advanced to the regional quarterfinals her junior season … Texas Sports Writers Association All-State honorable mention selection as a junior … Earned Reed River Diamond Dozen Newcomer of the Year accolades during her junior campaign … Offensive MVP as a junior … Four-time Academic All-District selection … Also participated in basketball and cross country … Led cross country team to district championship in 2010-11 … Class officer and member of National Honor Society and Student Council.
“A lefty pitcher from Texas, Ashley will give a strong lefty combination with (Kristen) Rumley, that will complement (Morgan) McCalmon's power style. A gritty competitor that wants to win, she'll bring a great edge to the circle. Not just a pitcher, I anticipate that she'll compete for time with her bat as well.”
