LEXINGTON, Ky. – Fresh off earning All-Ivy League first-team accolades, Dartmouth softball players Kristen Rumley (Katy, Texas) and Hillary Hubert (Grant Park, Ill.) earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Northeast Region honors. The All-Region honors are the first for the Big Green since former player Molly Khalil was selected in 2009.
Rumley, the 2013 Ivy League Pitcher of the Year and unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection, took her game to new heights both in the circle and at the plate. In 37 appearances, the southpaw went 22-9, tying the single-season wins record and setting several new marks. She became the Big Green’s single-season strikeout leader with 185 Ks in 2013 and also set the single-game record for strikeouts with 15 in a 4-3 extra innings win over Elon on March 23.
The Ivy League's only 20-game winner, Rumley recorded a 22-9 mark in her league-high 37 appearances (tied for third-most in league history). Her 22 wins are tied for fifth-most in a season in League history. She had a 1.74 ERA in 197-1/3 innings of work, both League bests. And when you factor in the number of innings she threw, it becomes even more impressive that she allowed just 29 walks on the season while striking out a League-high 185. Rumley holds Dartmouth's career strikeouts record with 336 in her first two seasons. She earned Pitcher of the Week honors five times during League action.
During Ivy play, Rumley went 12-3 with a 1.65 ERA, hurling four shutouts. In 93-1/3 innings of work inside the League, she walked just nine batters while striking out 80 and held the opposition to a .180 batting average. Rumley helped her own cause at the plate, as well as serving as the team's designated player on a part-time basis. She is fifth in the batting leader currently with a .362 average, scoring 27 runs and driving in 17. In League play, Rumley hit .418.
The Texas native was also a stalwart for the Big Green at the plate. She hits .362 in 152 at bats, which was good enough for third best on the team. Rumley ranked second on the team in runs (27) and hits (55), while ranking third in total bases with 68.
Hubert earns her third All-Ivy selection in 2013 after earning first-team and second team honors during her freshman and sophomore seasons. The two-time team captain had a fantastic finish to her Dartmouth career. The senior hit a team-best .381 and led the Big Green in hits with 59, which is a new single-season record. For her efforts she earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors on April 23. In the Big Green’s 4-0 series sweep of Yale, Hubert nailed two crucial home runs, becoming one of just seven players in program history to hit two home runs in a single game.
A total of 263 players from 137 different teams across the nation were selected to the 2013 NFCA Division I All-Region teams. The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association’s 10 regions with first and second teams selected for each region.
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2013 NFCA Division I All-American teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.
The 2013 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at 4 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, May 29, via NFCA.org.
