HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth softball team will begin the 2014 season this weekend down in sunny Florida at Florida International.
The Big Green will meet North Florida and the host Panthers in a five-game series. Dartmouth will take on FIU and UNF on Friday afternoon at noon against the Panthers and 3 p.m. versus the Osprey.
All three squads will meet again on Saturday, followed by one-game on Sunday against North Florida at noon.
Dartmouth returns its top pitcher, junior Kristen Rumley and top offensive hitter sophomore Katie McEachern. Rumley, the Ivy League Pitcher of the Year as a sophomore and College Sports Madness Preseason Pitcher of the Year will once again look to dominate after posting a 22-9 record with a 1.74 earned run average. McEachern was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year after leading the team with 10 home runs and 28 runs batted in as a rookie.
UNF enters the weekend with a 9-2 record after defeating Florida A&M on Wednesday, 8-3. Ashia Kerr leads the team, hitting .345 with two home runs and six RBI. Inside the circle, all three pitchers have won three games this season. Cortney Radke holds the lowest ERA on the team at 0.89.
FIU went 4-1 last weekend and are currently 8-2 on the season as they await the Big Green. Stephanie Texeira is hitting an amazing .500 on the season with two home runs and nine RBI. Aleima Lopez is tied with Texeira and two others for the team lead in homers, but holds the team lead with 10 RBI. Corinne Jenkins and Shelby Graves both have four wins on the season, but Jenkins is undefeated with a 1.43 ERA. Graves leads the rotation with 14 strikeouts.
Next weekend the Big Green will participate in the James Madison Tournament taking on Kent State, Penn State, Fairfield and host JMU.
