PRINCETON, N.J. – Fresh off their North Division title, Dartmouth softball players Morgan McCalmon (Norman, Okla.) and Katie McEachern (San Diego, Calif.) shared Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors. McCalmon picks up her first career Ivy League honor while McEachern is earning her third Ivy League honor after earning a Player and Rookie of the Week on March 26.
Both players played an integral part in the Big Green picking up their second Ivy League North Division title with a series win over Harvard last weekend. McCalmon went 2-0 in the circle and posted a 1.40 ERA on the weekend. In her 10 innings pitched she scattered eight hits allowing just two earned runs. She threw 22 strikeouts over the weekend, including a career-high 10 in a 5-4 extra inning win to clinch a spot in the 2013 Ivy League Championship series. The Oklahoma native was also stellar from the plate, batting .400 (6-of-15) with a team-best five runs. McCalmon enters this weekend’s Ivy League Championship series on an eight-game hitting streak.
McEachern’s bat, as it has been throughout the season, was on fire over the weekend. The infielder also hit .400 (6-of-15) for the weekend with three doubles and the game-winning home run in Sunday’s first game against the Crimson. McEachern’s home run was her 10th of the season and is a Dartmouth single-season record. McEachern’s three RBIs over the weekend give her the Big Green single-season RBI record with 37. She is also nearing the runs record, needing four more runs to tie the record set by former player Noelle Ramirez in 2011.
Dartmouth will look to secure its first Ivy League title this weekend when it travels to Penn for the 2013 Ivy League Championship series. The Big Green and Quakers will square off in doubleheader action on Saturday (May 4) beginning at 1 p.m. If necessary, the series will conclude on Sunday (May 5) with a single game starting at 1 p.m.
