HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth used timely hitting to pick up a sweep of North Division foe, Brown, on Saturday (April 13) at the Dartmouth Softball Park. The Big Green took the first game, 5-1, and earned a five-inning 10-0 win in the late game for the sweep.

Game One: Rumley Homers In Big Green Win (Dartmouth 5, Brown 1)
Dartmouth (16-17, 6-4 Ivy) used a three-run second inning and never looked back on the series opener with Brown. Morgan McCalmon (Norman, Okla.) got things started, getting on base after being walked by Brown pitcher Jessica Cherness.

McCalmon moved two bases with back-to-back wild pitches and was plated on a RBI single from Kathy Dzienkowski (Austin, Texas). Dartmouth’s hitters weren’t finished and with an RBI double from catcher Alex St. Romain (Chatham, N.J.), Dzienkowski scored. Romain came home on a crucial sacrifice fly from Brianna Lohmann (Belle Glade, Fla.)

Brown (7-20, 1-9 Ivy) got one run back in the fourth inning. Janet Leung doubled to center field, the Bears first hit of the afternoon, and was plated on a Dartmouth error.

That would be the only run for the Bears as Kristen Rumley (Katy, Texas), allowed just one hit in a complete game with seven strikeouts.  The southpaw also starred from the plate going 3-of-2 with her first home run of the season.

Dartmouth tacked on a run in the fourth with a RBI single from Lohmann in addition to Rumley’s home run in the fifth.  The Big Green bats were on fire as seven players had hits while Lohmann added a team-high two RBI.

After a scoreless first inning, Dartmouth got on the board in the second inning. McCalmon reached on a single to center field, followed by a single from Dzienkowski to give the Big Green two base runners. Lohmann picked up her third RBI of the afternoon with a single to left field that brought McCalmon home. The Big Green kept the bases loaded but couldn’t find another run as Rumley was forced out at second base to end the inning.

Dartmouth took a 4-0 lead after a three-run third inning. Katie McEachern (San Diego) started the hitting with a leadoff single followed by a single from Kelsey Miller (Mansfield, Texas). An error loaded the bases for the Big Green and a RBI single from Dzienkowski scored McEachern. Brown walked in a run and a bunt single from Megan Averitt (Alameda, Calif.) gave the Big Green three runs on four hits and a commanding lead.

The Big Green put the game out of reach in the fourth inning scoring six runs on four hits to take the 10-0 win.

Hillary Hubert (Grant Park, Ill.) went 3-of-4 from the plate with one RBI while Dzienkowski was 2-of-2 with two RBI. In the circle, Rumley picked up her 15th win and in 5.0 inning of work allowed just one hit. The shutout was Dartmouth’s first of the Ivy slate.
