HANOVER, N.H. - Senior second baseman Hillary Hubert (Grant Park, Ill.) was named team captain by head coach Rachel Hanson. Hubert is serving for the second consecutive season and led the Big Green to a 14-25 record in 2012 including wins over Ivy League champion, Harvard, and Penn.

"Hillary Hubert is a tremendous player for us as she anchors the middle of the field, is a strong vocal presence and a big bat in the lineup, " said Hanson. Her confidence and resolute nature on the field is contagious and sets a great tone for the rest of the team. Off the field she consistently exemplifies our team values, as well as holding her teammates to the same standards. That emphasis on accountability has already made a huge impact on the team."

The Big Green are coming off an outstanding fall campaign in which they went 4-0. Dartmouth won single games against UMass - Lowell and Holy Cross and swept a doubleheader with St. Anselm.

The Big Green, who will welcome a five-member freshman class when they hit the diamond this season, saw a lot of positives out of the rookies, who were adjusting to collegiate softball for the first time.  Dartmouth was also bolstered by its offense, as the Big Green's hitting proved to be key in each of the victories.

Dartmouth opens the 2013 season in Deland, Fla., when they travel to Stetson for a tournament Feb. 22-24.
