JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Dartmouth men's track & field sophomore Steve Mangan (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) automatically qualified for the quarterfinals in the 1,500 meters with a 3:47.86 in Thursday's preliminaries at the NCAA East Regional meet at North Florida's Hodges Stadium.

Mangan automatically advanced to Saturday's quarterfinal as he placed second in his heat in the early evening of the meet's first day of competition.

The day concluded with senior Ethan Shaw's (Falmouth, Maine) final collegiate race. Shaw finished 33rd in the prelims of the 10,000 meters in 31:15.20.

If Thursday ended for the Big Green with Shaw's final race in the Green and White, it began with junior Brett Gilson (Richboro, Pa.) in the javelin. Gilson finished the event 45th with a distance of 178-10.0/54.51m on his first throw of the morning that held up as his best of the day.

Henry Sterling (South Freeport, Maine) will be the only member of the Big Green competing on Friday as he will take to the track in the prelims of the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the second to last event of the day.
