PRINCETON, N.J. - The Dartmouth men's track & field team took to Princeton's facilities late Friday afternoon in the first day of competition at the 2012 IC4A Championships.
Two underclassmen were the highlights on this day for the Big Green as Dylan O'Sullivan (Harrowsmith, Ont.) and Henry Sterling (South Freeport, Maine) each finished fifth in their respective events in personal-best times.
O'Sullivan took fifth in the 10K, crossing in 30:15.32, more than 45 seconds faster than his previous top time in the event and one of the better times by a Dartmouth freshman in recent history.
Sterling claimed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, besting his previous PR in the event by six seconds as he crossed the line in 9:00.63. Sterling's showing was good enough to put him in strong contention for the NCAA East Regional In Jacksonville in two weeks in the steeple.
Both those fifth-place showings earned four points apiece to give Dartmouth eight points through Friday's competition.
Just missing out on the scoring was sophomore John Bleday (Westwood, Mass.) in the 5,000 meters. The sophomore placed ninth in 14:23.93 in the event to lead the Big Green contingent that also included Dylan Summers (Wolfeboro, N.H.) in 23rd and Brad Kenimer (Alexandria, Va.) in 24th.
The IC4As run in conjunction with the ECAC Championships (women) and continue through Sunday afternoon.
