CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Dartmouth men's outdoor track & field team made its 2013 debut Friday at the 49er Classic at the University of Charlotte's Irwin Belk Track for the first of two days of competition.
Freshman Edward Wagner posted the team's top performance of the afternoon, taking second overall in the 400m-hurdles with a 54.47. Wagner won his heat and will run again in Saturday's final.
Senior Connor Reilly was 12th overall in the 100 meters, crossing in 10.78 to win his heat. Sophomore Brett Buskey was second in his section of the event, running a 10.90 to take 17th overall in a field of nearly 90 competitors.
Junior Jalil Bishop was 13th overall in the preliminaries of the 400m. Bishop's 49.80 bested the times of nearly 65 other runners, but was not enough to push him through to the finals.
Reilly and Bishop also ran in the 200m, taking 16th (21.90) and 32nd (22.38), respectively.
Senior Jacob Evanter ran to a 21st-place showing in the 110m-hurdles in 16.29, while fellow senior Brett Gilson was 11th in the javelin (168-1.0/51.23m). Junior Josh Cyphers was 29th in the long jump with a distance of 18-9.75/5.73m.
