The Dartmouth Big Green started 2017 strong with a 2-0 record for a second straight season, and hits the west coast this weekend for two matches in the Golden State.
SCOUTING LONG BEACH STATE
Long Beach State enters Friday’s game with four games under its belt, including a most recent shut out win over San Diego State, 2-0, over the weekend. The Beach was picked to win the Big West League in the conference preseason poll, after a strong 2016 season, winning the Big West Tournament and playing in the NCAA Tournament. Strong returning players for the Beach include senior forward Ashley Gonzales and junior midfielder Dana Fujikuni, both were named to the Big West Preseason All-Conference Team, and Gonzales was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Year in 2016.
SCOUTING THE WAVES
Pepperdine will enter Sunday’s game with four games played as well, as the Waves are playing Columbia on Friday afternoon. This will be the third meeting between the two teams, with Pepperdine holding a 2-0 series lead. The Waves are coming off a successful 2016 campaign where they won the West Coast Conference title, and have been selected to finish third in the league this season.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green are coming off a 2-1 win over Stony Brook last Sunday at Burnham Field. Dartmouth scored in the first half on a penalty kick and later in the second half, Stony Brook scored a goal with only a few minutes left to play and Dartmouth came away with the win. It was the second straight game that the Big Green outshot their opponents 11-7.
FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING
This will be the first time Dartmouth has faced Long Beach State in program history.
LEADING THE WAY
Dartmouth’s captains are seniors Bianca Ribi and Gia Parker. Ribi scored the second goal in Sunday’s win over Stony Brook and provided the assist for the lone goal scored by junior Lauren Lucas against FIU in the Big Green’s first game.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Freshman goalkeeper Mariel Gordon has started her collegiate career off with a bang. In her first two games, she recorded eight total saves and her first career shutout on last Friday’s season opener.
