Hello from New York!
This Winter term, I have been living at home on Long Island and working at two internships. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I commute into New York City and work at a small law firm called Reese Richman LLP (31st and 6th Avenue). This law firm primarily deals with consumer protection, but I have personally been helping out with various civil rights cases. I have helped prepare legal documents for these cases and I even had the opportunity to go to court and see some of the work I did in the office put into action. I have also been working on another separate project called a Judicial Screening Panel, which is part of the process that all judges must go through before they are elected in New York City.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays I work in Massapequa Park, Long Island for my Congressman-US Representative Peter King. At his district office, I primarily do research, take constituent calls, update political contact lists, and basically anything else that is needed. Through working for my Congressman, I have learned a lot about pertinent political issues and have stayed up to date with the upcoming 2012 Presidential election. I have also had the opportunity to see how much my Congressman and his staff truly help people in our district with problems they may have.
I have really enjoyed living at home because I've had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with my family. Overall it's been a great experience and I have learned so much about the working world. However, I am really excited to head back to Dartmouth because I miss my teammates!
