NEW YORK, N.Y.- Sophomore forward Tasha Wilkins (Portland, Ore.) ended 65 minutes of scoreless soccer and sent the Dartmouth women's soccer team to its fifth consecutive win with a 1-0 win over Columbia on Saturday (Oct. 20).
Wilkins, who scored her second goal of the season, put home a rebound off a Corey Delaney (Chatham, N.J.) shot just second prior to give the Big Green the win. The win gives the Big Green a 20-4-3 lead in the all-time series and its seventh win on Columbia's home field since the 1999 season.
Dartmouth (11-4-0, 4-1-0 Ivy League) dominated on the offensive side of the ball, posting 22 shots to just 10 from the host Lions while 10 players recorded at least one shot on the afternoon.
Emma Brush (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) looked as if she might get Dartmouth on the board early with a header at the 2:51 mark of the first half but Columbia's goalkeeper Grace Redmon made the save, to keep the scoreboard clean.
Defender Kelly Brait (Glenview, Ill.) also had an opportunity to put Dartmouth on the board just before the end of the half. She moved up the field and took a quick shot, again forcing Redmon to make a save.
The Big Green came out on the offensive at the start of the second half, taking the first four shots of the game including a shot from Marina Moschitto (Andover, Mass.) which forced the Columbia (6-8-0, 2-3-0 Ivy League) backline to swoop in and make the save.
The Dartmouth backline spearheaded by goalkeeper, Tatiana Saunders (Rye, N.Y.) kept the Lions way from the Big Green goal all contest. Saunders made four saves in the win.
The Big Green will close out the 2012 home slate when they welcome rival, Harvard, for Homecoming on Sunday (Oct. 28). Dartmouth will also honor the 2012 senior class. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Burnham Field.
