ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore Lakin Roland recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds, but the Dartmouth women’s basketball team couldn’t stop Cornell seniors Allyson DiMagno and Stephanie Long who combined for 39 points in a 63-50 loss on Saturday evening.

Junior Milica Toskovic narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds. Senior Nicola Zimmer was also close with eight points and six rebounds. The Big Green shot 42 percent from the floor and made nine free throws. The Big Red finished 48 percent from the field and connected on six three-pointers.

Cornell led for more than half of the opening period and took its largest margin, 25-18, with less than a minute remaining, but the Big Green battled to force two lead changes. Roland gave the visitors an 8-7 lead with 15:46 left, as both sides traded baskets until Cornell took a 13-12 edge. The Big Green fought through a two-possession difference and tied the game once again 18-all with 3:19 left, however Cornell finished the half on a 7-0 run.

The Big Red added seven more points to continue their first-half run and increased the margin, 32-18 with 18:23 left.  Following the scoring span, Dartmouth lessened the difference with a 11-2 spurt. Toskovic added five points, and junior Abbey Schmitt scored on back-to-back layups for the visitors. Trailing, 34-29, The Big Red regained momentum scoring nine consecutive points to take a 45-29 lead, until Jordan snapped Dartmouth’s four-minute drought with a basket at 11:00.

Cornell’s interior attack was too much for Dartmouth late in the game and took a 17-point cushion with 3:50 left.  Dartmouth made a valiant attempt at a comeback and scoring seven consecutive points over the next 2:45 to tighten the deficit, 58-48. Shelby Lyman cut all hopes with a deep three with less than a minute remaining to preserve the win.

DiMagno finished with 20 points and nine rebounds and Long chipped in 19 points and four assists. Nia Marshall added seven points off the bench.
