HANOVER, N.H. – Entering her first season at the helm of the Dartmouth women’s basketball team, head coach Belle Koclanes is pleased to announce the 28-game slate for the 2013-14 season.
The schedule will feature six teams that played in the post-season last year, including three from the Ivy League.
“I’m extremely excited to get the season under way here at Dartmouth”, said Koclanes. “We have inherited a great schedule that will develop our team for Ivy League play.”
The 37th annual Big Sky Classic will kick-off Dec. 29-30. This season, Binghamton, La Salle and Massachusetts will spend their set of days in Hanover. The Big Green will take on La Salle on the 29th, followed by Massachusetts on the 30th.
Koclanes’ tenure begins at Holy Cross on November 8, with the home opener at Leede Arena three days later against Vermont. The first of four NCAA Tournament participants welcome Dartmouth, as the Syracuse Orange and the Carrier Dome play host on Nov. 14. Providence invades Hanover on Nov. 18, before the team heads to Washington, D.C. to meet American to start December.
Dartmouth will entertain tournament participant Albany (Dec. 4), New Hampshire (Dec. 7) and Bryant (Dec. 12) during a three-game homestand in early December.
“It will be nice to be home in December and get members of the community the opportunity to watch us play some great teams,” commented Koclanes.
Prior to the winter break, the team travels to Chicago to meet their third tournament qualifier DePaul (Dec. 16) and Loyola-Chicago (Dec. 19), under new head coach and WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes.
Two more non-conference road tilts are in order against Hartford (Jan. 4) and NJIT (Jan. 18).
The 14-game tournament known as “The Ivy League” starts at Leede Arena on Jan. 11, when Harvard arrives. The Crimson/Green home-and-home series concludes on Jan. 25 in Cambridge. Last season, Harvard advanced to the second round of the WNIT.
“We look at the Ivy League schedule like 14 individual championship games. We will play each game one half at a time,” said Koclanes.
Other notable Ivy games this season include at Ivy League Champion Princeton on Feb. 1 and then in Hanover on Feb. 21. WBI Final Four competitor Pennsylvania hosts at the Palestra on Jan. 31 and arrives at Leede on Feb. 22. Yale concludes the regular season on Mar. 8.
