PRINCETON, N.J.- On the heels of her career-high 18 points against Syracuse (Nov. 29), sophomore forward Abbey Schmitt (Winnetka, Ill.) was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week. It's the second time Schmitt has won the award this season as she also claimed the honor on Nov. 12.
Schmitt has been an important part of the Dartmouth women's basketball team this season. In Dartmouth's game against Syracuse on Nov. 29 she poured in a career-best 18 points for her third game in double-figures, while posting a team-best 10 rebounds against Northeastern (Nov. 27) and 11 rebounds against Old Dominion (Dec. 2).
The 6-0 forward is Dartmouth's second-leading scorer averaging 11.3 points per game and is leading the rebounding efforts with 9.3 rebounds. Schmitt has been in double figure rebounds in three of the Big Green's last four games and has posted three games in double-figures. She is also the lone Big Green player to post a double-double this season. Schmitt is currently ranked second among her Ivy League counterparts in rebounding (9.3 rebs/game) and is 11th in field goal percentage at 44.4 percent (24-of-54).
Dartmouth heads to Durham N.H., to take on in-state rival, New Hampshire on Wednesday (Dec. 5). Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at New Hampshire's Lundholm Gymnasium.
