HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth freshman Jvonte Brooks was named the Ivy league Rookie of the Week for men’s basketball today, having registered double-doubles against both Princeton and Penn on the road this past weekend. This is the third rookie award for Brooks this season and the seventh for a Big Green player.

Brooks, a native of Santee, Calif., began his weekend with 11 points and a season-high 13 rebounds at Princeton, reaching double figures on the glass less than 14 minutes into the game as Dartmouth took a 25-23 lead at the break before ending up on the wrong end of a 59-47 score. The next night, the 6-6 forward battled his way to a season-best 18 points while converting 12-of-14 free throws as the Big Green rallied from a 15-point, second-half deficit to tie the score in the final minute of play before faltering in the final seconds on a Quaker three-pointer.

For the season, Brooks leads Dartmouth in scoring (9.0 ppg), minutes (27.9 mpg), free throws made (89) and free throw percentage (.788), plus is second in rebounding (6.5 rpg) and third in assists (28). In the Ivy League rankings, he is seventh in both rebounding and free throw percentage, as well as second in free throws made.

Brooks joins Gabas Maldunas in being honored three times by the league as the top rookie of the week, while classmate John Golden has earned the honor once.

Dartmouth (4-20, 0-8 Ivy) will attempt to snap a seven-game skid this weekend when it begins a four-game homestand beginning with Yale (16-6, 6-2 Ivy) on Friday night at Leede Arena at 7 p.m. Video and audio of the game will be streamed live on through the Big Green Insider with Dave Collins providing the play-by-play.
