Watson, Golden Taking Part in European Goodwill Tour
Watson, Golden and the Global Sports Academy will spend seven days playing five games against various club teams while enjoying numerous sight-seeing opportunities in the three countries. After landing in Brussels today, the team will make stops in Melchelen, Ghent, Amsterdam, Antwerp, Bruges and London. The group will return to the United States on Aug. 21.
Other players on the trip will be Bryant Ackerman (Elmhurst College), Javier Duren (Yale), Chris Lee (Northwoods (Fla.) University), Joseph Lococo (West Liberty), Shonn Miller (Cornell), Zach Monaghan (Minnesota State-Mankato), Bryce Pressley (Portland), Matt Townsend (Yale), Clay Wilson (Princeton) and Alec Wintering (Portland).
Since 1991, Global Sports Academy has been arranging tours for college and youth teams from the United States and countries around the world to promote international competition and goodwill. It was initially established to provide athletes overseas playing opportunities in ice hockey and has grown to support a total of 12 different sports that compete in 25 different countries. As a not-for-profit organization, its mission is to create and arrange athletic competition between equally matched teams at all international levels, promote international goodwill and a better understanding between nations through sports.
