The 6-9, 230-pound Maldunas has been a force at both ends of the court for the Big Green, who are off to their best start (7-4) in 17 years. He is third on the team in scoring (10.5 ppg) while shooting 51.5 percent from the floor. The native of Panevezys, Lithuania, leads the Ancient Eight in rebounding (9.1 rpg), ranks second in blocked shots (24) and 11th in assists (29). In the last two games, Maldunas has achieved several career milestones as well, becoming the 19th player in Dartmouth history to haul in 500 rebounds and the fifth player to block 100 shots (since the stat has been compiled starting in 1980). He also surpassed 700 career points and 100 assists during the 84-64 triumph over Longwood on Dec. 21.
The Big Green play again on Saturday night when they host Vermont (5-8) at Leede Arena at 7 p.m. Dartmouth brings a four-game winning streak — its longest in nine years — into the game, but the Catamounts have won the last five meetings and 13 of the last 14. Even so, the Green own a 57-40 record all-time against Vermont in a series that dates back to 1900 and has been continuous for 42 years.
New Hampshire and Vermont residents that provide identification can buy a ticket at the door for a mere four dollars. Fans that are unable to make it to Hanover for the game can watch online through Big Green Insider on the Ivy League Digital Network. The high-definition video stream features three camera angles, replays and DVR capabilities with Dave Collins providing the play-by-play. A free audio stream is also available through the service.
