Northeast Credit Union Athlete of the Week - Schmitt & Melville
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding
student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Northeast Credit Union
Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their
efforts both on and off the field of competition.
, (Winnetka, Ill.) So., F, Women's Basketball
Sophomore women's basketball player Abbey Schmitt (Winnetka, Ill.) tallied her second career double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds in the Dartmouth women's basketball teams' 62-52 win over Columbia on Feb. 9. Schmitt, who is the Big Green's second-leading scorer with 8.2 points per game, also earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors for her efforts. The Ivy League honor was her third of the season. Schmitt's 17 points marks her sixth game in double figures and her 12 rebounds was her fifth game with double-figure rebounds.
(Plano, Texas) Jr., G, Men's Basketball
Melville was instrumental in Dartmouth's first road win in Ivy League play in nearly four years when he dropped 15 points on Columbia in the 60-57 triumph last Friday. The junior guard hit 5-of-8 field goals, including 3-of-4 three-pointers, plus converted two clutch free throws with 31 seconds to play that helped clinch the victory. Two days later, he led the Big Green with 12 points at Cornell. For the season, Melville is averaging 6.2 points a game and shooting 46.9 percent from long range, but those numbers are even better against conference competition - 9.7 points per game (third on the team) and 6-of-12 (.500) from behind the arc.
