HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth freshman Jvonte Brooks finished the 2011-12 men’s basketball season on a high note by earning his fourth Ivy League Rookie of the Week award after averaging 16.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in the final two Big Green games. His total matched that of his teammate, Gabas Maldunas, and gives Dartmouth a total of 10 rookie weekly honors for the season, the third most for one Ivy League team since the inception of the award in 1984-85.

Brooks, a 6-6 forward from Santee, Calif., led Dartmouth in scoring and rebounding in each game over the weekend, tallying 15 points with nine rebounds at Cornell on Friday before pouring in 17 more to go along with seven boards the next night at Columbia. More than half of his scoring output came at the foul line where he made a total of 18 free throws in 22 attempts (.818), going 9-of-12 the first night and 9-of-10 the next. He also shot well from the floor, connecting on 7-of-12 (.583) field goals. Against the Lions, he provided seven points during a 90-second span during the final four minutes of the game, twice bringing the Big Green within a point before Dartmouth succumbed, 61-55.

For the season, Brooks led the Green in scoring at 9.4 points per game and ranked second in rebounding at 6.6 caroms a night. He finished the year with 121 free throws, the second most in the Ivy League and a Dartmouth freshman record, while shooting 78.6 percent at the foul line.

The only Ivy teams to garner more Rookie of the Week honors in a single campaign are the 2006-07 Cornell Big Red with 13 and the 1996-97 Penn Quakers with 11. Those Cornell rookies then brought home three straight Ivy titles in their final three seasons, while the Quaker freshmen went on to produce two titles in their final two years, losing just one league game in the process.

Freshman John Golden was the other Big Green player to win a Rookie of the Week award, taking the honor home twice. The rookie trio were the top three rebounders on the team and three of the top four scorers.
